True patriots put democracy over party

Written by

To the editor,
Where are America’s patriots? I first want to acknowledge how proud I am of the few patriots (Republicans and Democrats) who have come forward in defense of democracy over party. Patriots challenge and question those leaders who wield un-democratic power. Some say President Trump wields that type of power. This un-checked power is dangerous to our democracy and our children’s future.

Average workers don’t see gains from tax cuts

Written by

To the editor,
President Donald Trump and Speaker Paul Ryan promised that their tax cut would result in huge gains for workers. Three weeks after the tax cut Trump was touting bonuses for workers, pay increases and jobs staying in the United States. The results we are seeing are corporations, their CEOs and wealthy investors seeing massive tax cuts but not sharing their wealth with workers.

Much-enjoyed national parks need maintenance

Written by

To the editor,
As National Park Week was celebrated April 21 through April 29, I was excited to see the Rock County Board pass a resolution asking Congress to address the backlog of maintenance needs in our national parks. They join more than 160 gateway cities and towns across America that have taken similar action to protect nearby national parks.

To the editor,
In response to the opinion from Mr. Scheifley (April 1 letters to the editor), I only can think he wrote it as a provocateur. The conclusions are so far removed from reality that it’s hard to imagine anyone could actually believe them, although we know they do.

To the editor,
Nationally, April is recognized as Child Abuse Prevention Month.  Although the connection may not seem obvious, child abuse is a major contributing factor to opioid and heroin abuse. In one study, it was found that for women, 78 percent of injected drug use can be attributed to adverse childhood experiences.
