To the editor,

In response to Michael Buchek’s interesting perspective on the dangers of marijuana usage, I take issue. Wisconsin leads the nation in alcohol-related traffic deaths, and there are few public accounts of pot contributing to traffic accidents. He’s either unfamiliar, uninformed or uneducated on the effects of pot for recreational usage today.

Can you imagine a principal publicly degrading those who disagree with him? Can you see the school board silently endorsing ubiquitous disrespect? I can’t either.

To the editor,

“This is not normal.” As a resident and voter in southeastern Wisconsin, I was affected by the above phrase when used by former FBI Director James Comey. Living in the Midwest, specifically Wisconsin, we as Americans have a strong set of high values. Although we try to respect other people’s values and opinions, there are some basic values that we all share as Americans.

On May 19, 180 Delavan-Darien High School community volunteers fanned out over the area to do various projects. There were 14 projects led by 29 project leaders.

Legalizing marijuana would burden society

In answer to Lee Schubert’s May 20 letter to the editor:

It seems like every time government legalizes something that is illegal, somehow it puts a burden on society.  Here we are taxing cigarettes to death so it would cut back on usage. The government thought that it would rake in revenue; with everyone who quit, it didn’t work out that way.
