Choir, orchestra honor woman’s memory with music

BELOIT — The Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra and the Beloit College Choirs will present a free concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, at the college’s Eaton Chapel.

John Rapp and his daughters commissioned the concert dedicated to wife and mother Anita M. Andrew, who died suddenly last December. Andrew was a historian, China scholar, adoptive mother of two Chinese daughters and wife of 38 years to Rapp, professor emeritus at Beloit College.

The concert repertoire includes pieces composed by Aaron Copland, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Samuel Berber and Gabriel Fauré. The guest artists are soprano Dana Carlson, a voice instructor at Beloit College who is on the board of the Fresco Opera Company in Madison, and baritone Oliver Neal Medina, a supplemental chorister at the Lyric Opera of Chicago and a former member of the Santa Fe Opera Company.
