Concern over prairie land seems ill-timed

Written by  Staff Writer
To the editor,
The Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin having recently purchased property on County Highway G for a new facility has apparently stirred the ire of some people because the site contains a “historic native prairie” which these folks would like to now see preserved.
Folks of last-minute concern just cork me.

How long has it been known that this property is “historic native prairie” — and if it is so important — why hadn’t someone purchased the property in order to preserve it before now?

I’m sure that anyone who wants to keep the site as-is could purchase other acreage and offer to trade it to the humane society for their land.
