Go exploring with a world-renowned scientist

Evolutionary biologist Neil Shubin is the recipient of the 2019 Distinguished Explorer Award from the Roy Chapman Andrews Society. The society annually honors a scientist or explorer who embodies the spirit of Andrews, a Beloit native and Beloit College graduate who gained national fame as an explorer for the American Museum of Natural History. BELOIT — Neil Shubin, recipient of the 2019 Distinguished Explorer Award, will offer his acceptance lecture at 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 26, in the Wilson Theatre at Beloit College’s Mayer Hall, ADDRESS.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

Shubin is an internationally renowned paleontologist, evolutionary biologist and science communicator whose discoveries have led to ground-breaking advances in understanding the origin of organs in the human body and the connectiveness of all life, according to a society news release.

The explorer will share stories about his discoveries made on expeditions to five continents in his acceptance speech, “Finding Your Inner Fish.”
