LAKE GENEVA — Lake Geneva native and author Pamela S. Meyers will present her program “From a Sleepy Village to Newport of the West: How The Great Chicago Fire Seared Its Imprint on Lake Geneva” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at the Lake Geneva Public Library.
How did those beautiful mansions come to be on Geneva Lake’s shoreline? And who were those people who built them? How has their presence influenced the town in many positive ways you might not realize?

Meyers will share what she’s learned about the area while researching for her historical novels. She also will be signing her books, including her recent release, “Safe Refuge,” which is set in Lake Geneva right after the Great Chicago Fire. “Safe Refuge” is the first of three novels in Meyers’ Newport of the West series.

Most of Meyers’ novels are set in or near Lake Geneva. She lives in northern Illinois but often can be found in Lake Geneva, researching and keeping an eye open for new story ideas.
