The hometown Rock Aqua Jays host the Division 1 National Water Ski Show Championships from Friday, Aug. 10, through Sunday, Aug. 12, on the Rock River in Janesville.
The showcase of talent takes place at Traxler Park, 600 N. Main St. and admission is free. Individual competition begins at 10 a.m. Aug. 10 with skiers displaying their skill in barefooting, swivel, doubles, tricks and more. The team competition will begin at 7:30 a.m. Aug. 11 and Aug. 12. According to the National Show Ski Association, “In competitive show skiing, each club has one hour to present a theatrical performance on water skis. Judges score the acts by awarding points based on originality, presentation and execution. Elaborate costumes and staging intermix with music and fast action on the water as an announcer leads the audience through the show.” For more information, go online to
