To the editor,
I have a slightly different view than the one expressed by Leon Freeburg in his recent letter about school shootings, though he does mention money and power motivating politicians’ approach to school safety.
The high schoolers gunned down in Parkland, Florida, should be thought of as political cannon fodder to make the case for gun control and magazine size restrictions (even though the shooter only used 10-round ones). Scare tactics about assault weapons (not semi autos), which are illegal without a permit, are belied by FBI statistics (a fraction of the 3 percent of rifle homicides).Sen. Dick Durbin was disingenuous or ignorant last weekend when discussing universal background checks, considering the Obama administration had the FBI remove in late 2016 more than 500,000 fugitive arrest warrants from the national Instant Background Check System.
The disturbed Nikolas Cruz was too valuable to detain (waste) when he could be used to foment a crisis to manipulate for political advantage. Or was it incompetence and cowardice with law enforcement personnel waiting while shooting was going on in Parkland High School, in contrast to the written rules regarding active shooter situations?I would suspect the former considering the sheriff’s questionable associations. He is on good terms with Hillary Clinton and the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Muslim Brotherhood entity. (The Egyptian people rebelled against the group’s tyrannical rule). CAIR has no use for the 1st Amendment or nonMuslims’ 2nd Amendment rights.
Perhaps Switzerland’s example should be adopted where every military age male citizen has a real assault rifle at home and crime is low. But America is importing people from low-IQ Third-World counties with dysfunctional cultural norms and turning America into a multicultural paradise.
