Written by

TOWN OF SHARON— Investigators say a town of Sharon teen failed to stop at a stop sign Wednesday and crashed into the car of a man who then died at the scene, according to a Walworth County sheriff's news release.

Loren Huffman, 67, also of the town of Sharon, sustained critical injuries from the crash and died, according to the release. The teen, driving a blue 2005 Ford Taurus, was Isabel Lavariega Bazan, 19.

Sheriff's deputies received a report at about 2:16 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2017, of a crash involving two vehicles at the intersection of Highway 67 and County K in the town of Sharon, according to the release. Initial investigation showed the teen's Taurus failed to stop at the posted stop sign and crashed into Huffman's brown 2008 Subaru Outback.

Both were the only occupants of their cars, according to the release. Huffman's car was westbound on Highway 67 with the right of way when his car was struck by the Taurus.

“Isabel Lavariega Bazan sustained significant injuries and was transported to a local hospital,” the release states.

The Walworth County Medical Examiner's Office pronounced Huffman dead at the scene at 3:45 p.m., according to the release. The crash remains under investigation.
