ROSCOE -- The Roscoe Christmas Parade and Lighting of the Trees event will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016.
The parade begins at 4:30 p.m. on Main Street and will feature floats from local businesses and organizations. Mickey Heinzeroth, executive director for the Stateline Chamber of Commerce, said the parade is a popular holiday event among area residents.
"People line up throughout Main Street, from Williams Drive to Bridge Street," Heinzeroth said. "Most people line up closer to Bridge Street to be closer to the tree-lighting ceremony."
The Lighting of the Trees ceremony begins at 5 p.m. near the corner of Main Street and Bridge streets. The trees are decorated by area businesses and will be lit until the beginning of the new year. Residents can vote for their favorite decorated tree with the winning business receiving a trophy.
"Members of the community vote for their favorite tree with canned-food donations," Heinzeroth said. "The food goes to the Harlem-Roscoe Fire District for food baskets, and they are distributed to families in need. A lot of businesses participate one way or another. Either they donate the lights, decorate a tree, donate food items or participate in the parade."
Following the tree-lighting ceremony, the festivities continue with a community event at the Roscoe Village Hall, 10631 Main St. The event will include food, hot chocolate, children's games and a visit from Santa.
"The community looks forward to it every year," Heinzeroth said. "It's a fun family night."
