Head of Beloit Equal Opportunities Commission chair resigns after accusation of racism

BELOIT -- Michael Zoril, the chairman of the Beloit Equal Opportunities Commission, resigned abruptly Nov. 4 after being accused of making a racist Facebook comment.

The comment written by Zoril was found on a the WKOW-TV Facebook page under article titled "Trump polling at zero percent with black voters in Wisconsin."

In response Zoril commented, "Black voters are some of the stupidest people around," according to

City Manager Lori Curtis Luther told the station she was prepared to pursue his removal from the EOC, but he resigned.

"I am very pleased that he resigned. I was personally appalled and disgusted by the comment that I found to be blatantly racist," Luther said.

Teri Downing, staff liaison to the Beloit EOC, said the city had not had time to fully investigate the comment before the former chairman resigned.

The commission has the opportunity to schedule a special meeting to elect a new chair. If not, a new chair will be appointed at their next meeting on Dec. 21.
