Photography by Terry Mayer MADISON — It was a hard-fought, disappointing finish for the East Troy High School Trojans girls' basketball team in the second semifinal game of the WIAA Division 3 state tournament Friday. East Troy lost to Oostburg with a final score of 54 to 38, in the game played at the Kohl Center in Madison, but the team marked their first state appearance and came in after a great complete season record of 24-2. Oostburg had a height advantage, and kept a lead for most of the game, but East Troy hustled, led by 5-foot-6 junior guard Breanna Gaspervich, who scored a total of 15 points, including three three-pointers. The Trojans worked to cut the lead in the second half, though Oostburg put on the pressure to keep Gaspervich in check. Trouble came in the fourth quarter when junior guard Rachel Atchison left the game with an injury with a little over 6 minutes left, and Gaspervich fouled out with 4 1/2 minutes left. Still, it was a remarkable journey for the Trojans and their head coach, Jeff Brown, in his second year with East Troy, considering four years ago the team was 1 and 20. All of East Troy's starters will return next year. See the post-game press conference on the WIAA site HERE.
