ELKHORN -- The presidential election might be making headlines, but Walworth County voters who head to the polls for the primary will focus on offices closer to home.
Polls will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, for primary voting. Voters must present a voter ID. For more information about voter ID, go online to bringitwisconsin.gov.
ELKHORN -- The three candidates for Elkhorn mayor cite a variety of issues as being the most vital to the city, but all three candidates share some experience in city government.
WALWORTH COUNTY SUNDAY -- Crayons and dolls are just part of the day for Bridget Sandoval, a Delavan mother of three, whose youngest child is 4 years old.
“I’ve told people over the years that I decided to be a stay-at-home mom because it gives me an excuse to play with Barbies,” she said, laughing.

WALWORTH COUNTY SUNDAY -- The sturdy table in a workroom at Heritage Beam and Board -- like all of the furniture crafted there -- once had another, totally different life. Its weathered wood was part of a barn in Zenda, Wisconsin.
Heritage’s owners say their repurposed wood furniture and décor represent something more consumers are looking for these days -- a unique piece that wasn’t mass-produced in a factory overseas.

WALWORTH COUNTY SUNDAY -- More resources means more opportunities and that means more young people are starting their own businesses.
Young entrepreneurs are getting their feet wet at “break-neck speed,” according to David Gee of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Gee is a lecturer in entrepreneurship and the co-director of the UW-Whitewater Launch Pad program, which helps UW-Whitewater undergraduates and graduate students launch startup businesses.
WALWORTH COUNTY SUNDAY -- Diane and Michael Michalek lost their 22-year-old daughter, Alyssa, to suicide about four years ago. Now the Delavan couple has helped organize a walk in her memory to help others who have lost a loved one to suicide or people who are struggling with thoughts of suicide.
The Walworth County Out of the Darkness Suicide Prevention and Awareness Walk will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Walworth County Fairgrounds in Elkhorn. Registration begins at 8 a.m., an opening ceremony with a balloon release will be at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 9:30 a.m. People also can register for the two-mile walk by going online to afsp.org/walk.
