Audience members will see a familiar fairy tale turned on its head with “The Cinderella Complex” at the newly remodeled auditorium at Big Foot High School, said director Rachel Wenndt.
WALWORTH COUNTY SUNDAY -- In Wisconsin, 42 percent of the state’s households have adults who go to work every day but aren’t sure they’ll be able to put dinner on the table tonight for their families, pay the electric bill this month or buy prescription drugs to manage chronic conditions like high blood pressure.
The findings are the result of a United Way of Wisconsin report released in September on the Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed, or ALICE. Often referred to as the working poor, these are people who don’t fall under the poverty level but can’t afford basic necessities.
WALWORTH COUNTY SUNDAY -- Dave Saalsa remembers walking his dogs one evening across the wooded lawns of Whitewater’s Hillside Cemetery when the animals suddenly stopped and stood stock-still. He glanced up to see what the dogs were watching so intently, but nothing looked amiss. Then he spotted it.
“Right across from a crypt, I saw this full-bodied apparition of a woman. She was floating up the hill,” Saalsa said.
WALWORTH COUNTY SUNDAY -- “Music to me is like breathing,” said Ray Charles, American singer, musician and composer. “I don’t get tired of breathing. I don’t get tired of music.”
Almost everyone who breathes enjoys music -- whether that is listening to it, making it or moving to it. Of course, the style of music differs by person, peer group and regional and cultural affiliation.
BLOOMFIELD -- A group of hungry ostriches approached the tour wagon looking for food. A few minutes later, alpacas, miniature horses and a miniature zebu joined them.
That’s just one of the things visitors will see as part of their visit to Safari Lake Geneva, which opened a 75-acre preserve last month off County Highway H, south of Lake Geneva. The park features a variety of animals representing five continents including rheas, zebras, llamas, blackbuck antelopes, bison and goats.
TOWN OF LINN—Hillcroft, the $16.45 million home currently for sale at W3245 Snake Road that stretches along Geneva Lake, not only has numerous luxurious amenities like a private dock, heated 8-car bay and two-bedroom guesthouse—it comes with a pedigree.
In 1927, the estate was the summertime residence of Phillip K. Wrigley, whose fortune at one time included the Wrigley Chewing Gum Company, the Chicago Cubs baseball team and Chicago’s Wrigley Field.
BELOIT -- You’ve uncovered a tomb in an ancient Egyptian pyramid, and in the midst of exploring it, you suddenly find yourself trapped. WALWORTH COUNTY SUNDAY -- Music takes center stage on the village square when the East Troy Bluegrass Festival kicks up its heels Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10 and Sept. 11.
The East Troy festival is among one of four fun events planned next weekend. There’s also Darien Corn Fest, the Taste of Lake Geneva and the Whitewater Main Street Festival to squeeze into your social calendar.
WALWORTH COUNTY SUNDAY -- About 20,000 boats travel on Geneva Lake throughout the summer. Besides the boaters, the lake also is busy with swimmers, sail boaters, wakeboarders and water skiers.
With all that activity, someone has to make sure the lake remains safe for users. That’s where the Geneva Lake Law Enforcement Agency comes in.
WALWORTH COUNTY SUNDAY -- Maybe it’s been years since you’ve made s’mores or joined in a sing-along by an open campfire, practiced archery or worked on arts and crafts under a green spread of trees. But if you’re missing those carefree summertime days and nights, you can re-create them -- or start your own memories.
Adult summer camps are a growing business, with more than 800 camps in the United States and more than a million adults attending them in 2013, according to the marketing company Grownupcamps.com site.
