JANESVILLE MESSENGER -- Larry Patnoe has made it an annual tradition to match up his chili recipe with cooks from throughout the country.
Patnoe of rural Janesville has been participating in Chilimania since the event began 26 years ago. He plans to compete again this year when the festival is held from 10 a.m. to midnight Saturday, Sept. 12, in downtown Edgerton.
JANESVILLE MESSENGER -- Old school rules next weekend at the 59th annual Rock River Thresheree. The event is set for Friday, Sept. 4, through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7, at Thresherman’s Park in Edgerton.
Among the hundreds of tractors and other pieces of machinery will be antique construction equipment owned by members of the Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owners Club.
JANESVILLE MESSENGER -- For Milton Police Chief Scott Marquardt, it was curiosity and wanting to follow in his father’s footsteps that sparked his interest in law enforcement.
Marquardt said his father, Lynn, who worked for the Verona Police Department for about 20 years, still serves as an inspiration for his career.

A Beloit man who died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015 while being held at the Rock County Jail died of natural causes, according to preliminary autopsy results.

MESSENGER -- Members of Janesville's under-age-10 Cal Ripken Division team and under-age-13 Babe Ruth team were honored Monday, July 27, 2015 with a fire truck procession that began at Bessie the Cow. The teams qualified for the Babe Ruth World series after winning their respective regional titles Sunday, July 26, 2015. Janesville 10U begins play Aug. 8, 2015 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Janesville 13U begins play Aug. 15 in Jamestown, New York.
