The Tuesday Hike report by Jake Gerlach: This week we had a break in the weather and eight hikers showed up for our Tuesday hike. We started out on the connector trail and then turned left on the Ice Age Trail for our hike around Lake LaGrange. There was quite a bit of snow where the connector trail went through the woods. When we were in the open, the trail was often bare and muddy. At Ruth’s Point we caught a nice view of the setting sun and we noticed two fishermen way out on the lake.
The Tuesday hike report by Jake Gerlach: Six brave hikers showed up for the Tuesday hike. The temperature was in the single digits and there was a strong west wind. Because of the wind I decided to try to walk in the woods. That worked well except for one short section at the finish.
The Tuesday Hike report by Jake Gerlach: On a bitterly cold day four hikers showed up for the hike. The temperature was about 7 degrees at the start of the hike and about 3 degrees at the end. Because of the wind chill, I selected a slightly shorter route along the subdivision trails and the horse trails. The hike was a little over 2 1/2 miles in wooded areas.
The Tuesday hike report by Jake Gerlach: Five hikers showed up for our hike on this December evening. The normal hike at this time of year with the early sunset is to go around Lake LaGrange. I set off at a rather brisk pace and everyone else stayed with me, so it was a quick one-hour walk.
The Tuesday hike report by Jake Gerlach: On a cold December evening four veteran hikers showed up for our hike. As usual on these days of early sunsets, we just went around Lake LaGrange.
The Tuesday hike report by Jake Gerlach: On a windy and cold day seven hikers showed up for the Tuesday evening hike. I had been thinking about the wind direction and which way to hike and decided to go down the hill so we could walk across the prairie with the wind at our backs.
The Tuesday hike report by Jake Gerlach: This week there were seven people on the hike, including a new hiker, Amy. Amy had heard about the hike on Facebook. Because it gets dark so early, we just went around Lake LaGrange. That way we could start at exactly 4 p.m., preserving as much daylight as possible for the hike.
The Tuesday hike report by Jake Gerlach: The gun deer season was underway during our Nov. 21 hike. To ensure that we were not in a hunting area, I chose to hike on the sidewalks and trails in Whitewater. Eleven veteran hikers showed up at our meeting place and we all went to the lakefront parking area near the depot in Whitewater.
The Tuesday hike report by Jake Gerlach: Ten hikers showed up for the walk this evening. With the early sunset, we just walked around Lake LaGrange. The recent freezing and thawing had made for some mud on the hill.
The Tuesday hike report by Jake Gerlach: I had been thinking of where I would like to hike when I arrived at the U.S. Highway 12 meeting place. When Ed came, he reminded me that the hikers were having a potluck. By tradition we always hike the white ski trail when we have a special hike with food.
