EAST TROY -- Singing is all the rage on reality TV shows. Programs such as "The Voice," "America’s Got Talent" and the iconic, recently retired "American Idol," give the illusion that anyone can sing well given that one big break. But closer to home, talent abounds, and some of those who are dedicated but less decorated sing for the loveof it in the East Troy Community Choir.
In its 10th year, the mix of male and female voices is directed by Rodger Trader.
WALWORTH COUNTY SUNDAY -- The sound of music fills the air and the ears of festivalgoers every September at the East Troy Bluegrass Festival. The 22nd annual festival kicks off Saturday, Sept. 12, and continues through the weekend, with more fiddles, banjos and guitars than you can strum, pick or slide a bow across.
East Troy is the perfect setting for such an event, said Vanessa Lenz, executive director of the East Troy Area Chamber of Commerce.
WALWORTH COUNTY SUNDAY -- On any given Sunday, the Rev. Simone Nathan, pastor of the Good Earth Church of the Divine, might be found blessing the waters at the shorelines of Lauderdale Lakes, offering prayers for a fruitful harvest in a neighborhood orchard or giving a sermon at a weekly worship service in the sunlit upper level of an upscale barn at Michael Fields Agricultural Institute in East Troy.
The combination of theology and ecology that forms the Good Earth Church, an ecumenical interfaith community, is what Nathan calls planting a bit of heaven on earth.
