BELOIT -- City officials are working to quell a dispute over 21-gun salutes following a packed city council meeting last Monday, March 6, 2017.

 Beloit Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2306 honor guard commander Steve Mayfield told WISC-TV that the conflict started when the Beloit Police Department asked the group not to fire the traditional rifle volleys near a highway at a recent funeral.

STATELINE NEWS -- Latino community advocates are asking Beloit officials to consider creating a municipal identification card for those who are unable to obtain a state ID or drivers license.

BELOIT -- Voters will chose four members of the Beloit City Council April 5, 2106, when they go to the polls. Six candidates are vying for four available seats.

The candidates include incumbents Sheila DeForest and Ana Kelly and challengers Regina Dunkin, Kevin Leavy, Mark Preuschl and James Faragher. Leavy previously served on the council from 2004 to 2015.

BELOIT -- Lori Curtis Luther describes her first seven months as Beloit’s city manager as "uniquely challenging."

Just this week, she's helped calm a grieving city following the shooting death of 5-year-old Austin Ramos Jr.

That follows months-long maneuvering to remove the police chief, and next up is a tough city budget.
