STATELINE NEWS -- Olivia Runne’s recent trip to Finland served as inspiration for one of the 4-H projects she entered in this year’s Winnebago County Fair.
Runne, 17, of Rockford, visited Finland for about a month this summer as part of the 4-H Exchange Program. Runne’s project featured photographs that she took during her trip.
“I used a lot of the same photos that I took there, and I even brought some of the candies back here with me,” Runne said.
Runne traveled to the Scandinavian country with more than 20 other 4-H members from around the United States. She said they went hiking, enjoyed Finnish cuisine and visited tourist attractions, adding that it’s similar to the U.S.

This year, the Lake Geneva House of Music will sponsor and coordinate a showcase of outstanding local talent on what’s been known as the Pepsi Stage.
Chris Buttleman, owner of the Lake Geneva House of Music, said he’s looking forward to showcasing some of his students and teachers on stage at the Walworth County Fair.
“We’ve got some great up and coming talent: Adia Fuller, Nick Brose, Claire Kelly and John Hainstock, to mention a few,” Buttleman said.
JANESVILLE MESSENGER -- One of the great things about summer is the county fair. For six days, you can enjoy a slice of rural life right inside the city limits of Janesville.
This year’s Rock County 4-H Fair is set for July 28 through Aug. 2 at the Rock County Fairgrounds. The theme is “Families Make the Fair Go Round.”
