Warm up to winter solstice at nature center’s Dec. 21 gathering

Written by  Staff Writer

SOUTH BELOIT — The winter solstice marks the longest night and shortest day of the year. On this darkest of nights, the folks at Nature at the Confluence invite you to their Winter Solstice Gathering and Luminary Walk on Thursday, Dec. 21.

The event begins at 6 p.m. at the nature center, 306 Dickop St., South Beloit.

Visitors are invited to enjoy the warmth of the community fire, stroll the candlelit pathways, make s’mores in a toasty fire, listen to the sounds of the season and make pinecone bird feeders to hang outdoors for our feathered friends.

Musical guest Judy Cummings will be playing the hammered dulcimer.

Attendees should dress for the weather and bring a flashlight to walk the trails.

The winter solstice event is free, but donations are appreciated.
