WHITEWATER -- Rock-Walworth Comprehensive Family Services Inc. will celebrate the 52nd birthday of its signature program, Head Start, in holding one of nearly 1,400 Community Reading Day events planned across the country on Thursday, May 18.

The Stateline area gathering will be at Head Start’s Whitewater location, Lakeview Elementary School, W8363 R&W Townline Road.

Activities will include Wisconsin state Sen. Steve Nass, R-Whitewater, reading to children at 12:15 p.m. in Room 507.

The National Head Start Association is partnering with Scholastic in hopes of raising awareness about the impact and importance of local/area Head Start programs.

“We are thrilled to have Sen. Nass join our Whitewater Head Start community to celebrate Head Start’s birthday,” said Carol Mishler, Head Start program director. “Having Sen. Nass join us for Community Reading Day and be a role model for our students and a supporter of Head Start is so appreciated. We are grateful for the opportunity to showcase all of the hard work we do for our nation’s most vulnerable children and their families.”
