Ruffini also will coordinate the development and marketing of the Beloit region's sports and tourism industries in an effort to create a positive economic impact and will collaborate with Visit Beloit's many partner organizations, including the Greater Beloit Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Beloit Association and Greater Beloit Economic Development Corporation.
Ruffini fills the vacancy created by the resignation in March of Monica Krysztopa. The search committee received a strong response to the job posting and a selection was made after a regional search and interview process, according to the news release.
"Celestino quickly rose to the top of a pool of highly qualified candidates based on his experience, creativity, energy, and enthusiasm for Beloit and Visit Beloit," Jason Hughes, current chair of the board of directors and director of communications and marketing at Beloit College was quoted as saying in the news release. "We are thrilled to have him join us and look forward to introducing him to our community and partners."
Ruffini joins the team with nearly ten years of destination management education and experience, as well as specializations in leisure marketing and group sales in the hospitality and tourism industries.
Ruffini recently has been recognized with a Best Marketing Campaign award and Best Leisure Collateral award from the Illinois Governor's Conference on Travel and Tourism.
His passion and expertise in the tourism industry have contributed to increases in hotel and motel tax revenues for the Galena/Jo Daviess County Convention and Visitors Bureau since 2009. In addition to his professional success, Ruffini also currently holds positions with the Illinois Council of Convention and Visitor Bureaus and Destination Marketing Association International.
