Jake Lesh as Edwin Booth in the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Theatre/Dance Department’s world premiere of “The Edwin Booth Company Presents….”

WHITEWATER – The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Greenhill Center of the Arts announces the Theatre/Dance Department’s world premiere of “The Edwin Booth Company Presents….”

Filled with clever humor, dashing sword fights and beautiful romance, the production opens in the Barnett Theatre Nov. 29 and runs through Dec. 3.

The play is written and directed by the Milwaukee actress, Angela Iannone. She currently is Maria Lombardi in the Milwaukee Rep’s Lombardi.

When not onstage performing, she teaches  and directs for the Theatre/Dance Department at UW-Whitewater. This play has been an ongoing project for Iannone and she refers to her script as a “love letter to Edwin Booth.”

She spent three years researching the Booth family to make this play historically accurate, complete with contacting actual members of the family. Set in the historic traveling theatre scene of the late 19th century, “The Edwin Booth Company Presents…” follows Edwin Booth and company as they arrive in Boston for an extended engagement only to have everything fall apart mere hours before curtain.

Additional information can be found on the Department’s website at http://www.uww.edu/cac/theatre/.

This show has a strong production team including UW-Whitewater students: Chris Tate, assistant director; Eric Vigo, lighting designer; Krissy Fisher, stage manager; and Lexie Strullmyer and Alissa Krantz, assistant stage managers. The rest of the production team include faculty members Eric Appleton, scenic designer; Marshall Anderson, costume designer; and Stephen Chené, technical director.

The cast includes UW-Whitewater students: Jake Lesh as Edwin Booth; Aly Ruge as Mary Devlin; Stephanie Staszak as Emma Vaders and Eric Boldger as John Wilkes Booth.

Tickets are available at the Greenhill Center Box Office from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
