Veterans Day events



Walworth County

Darien
American Legion Post 450 potluck for veterans at 6 p.m. Thursday at the hall on Market Street. Darien Elementary School will hold a program at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 11.

Delavan
Phoenix Middle School sixth-graders in Tim Foster’s social studies classes will present a “Salute to Veterans” program at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium, 414 Beloit St.
On Nov. 11, American Legion Post 95 will host several services: 8:45 a.m. flag raising and guest speaker at Delavan-Darien High School; 9:50 a.m. or 10 a.m. flag raising and guest speaker at Phoenix Middle School; 11 a.m. flag raising and gun salute at the legion hall on South Second Street; 1:30 p.m. flag raising at Turtle Creek Elementary. Another ceremony is planned at 10:40 a.m. in the gym at Wileman Elementary School.

East Troy
A reading and salute featuring color guard and rifle squad begins at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 outside the American Legion hall, located one block north of the square on Church Street.

Elkhorn
Remembrance and appreciation program with American Legion Post 45 and the VFW at Tibbets Elementary School on County Highway A, 9 a.m. Nov. 11; flag ceremony and gun salute at downtown square at 11 a.m.; social hour and dinner for all veterans starting at 5:30 p.m. at VFW hall, 16 S. Broad St.

Pell Lake/Genoa City
Legion Post 183 of Genoa City and VFW of Pell Lake program will feature guest speaker Ed Duesing at Brookwood School, 630 Kossuth St., Genoa City, at 9 a.m. Nov. 11; potluck and raffle for veterans at Legion hall, 114 Freeman St., Genoa City, 4:30 p.m. Nov. 13.

Walworth/Fontana
Gun salute and presentation of colors with Legion Post 102, 9 a.m. at Walworth Middle/Elementary School, 121 Beloit St. Legion and VFW program at Fontana Elementary School, 450 S. Main St., at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 11.

Whitewater
Fairhaven Senior Services, 435 W. Starin Road, will host American Legion and VFW members, 11 a.m. program Nov. 11 features music, speeches and reading for Statue of Liberty with a reception to follow.

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
Nov. 11: National Roll Call in University Center commons at 8 a.m., veterans recognition ceremony in the alumni center at 11 a.m., free lunch for veterans in all UW-Whitewater dining facilities from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Janesville area

Nov. 11
 Traxler Park, Janesville
• 9 a.m., coffee and doughnuts at the warming house, sponsored by the Associates of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 236
• 10:30 a.m., Veterans Day program at Veterans Plaza. Conducted by the Janesville Patriotic Society member organizations
• 11:30 a.m., chili lunch in the warming house, sponsored by the American Legion Post 205 Auxiliary
• In remembrance of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, the obituaries of the Rock County Vietnam veterans killed in action will be on display in the warming house.

Janesville
• 7 p.m., USO Show at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1621 in Janesville. $2 suggested donation will benefit the VFW National Home for Children.

Evansville
• 9:30 a.m, Veterans Day program at Evansville High School, including dedication of the Evansville Community Military Honor Roll

Rock County Christian School
• 4 p.m., veterans appreciation dinner at the school’s middle/high school campus, 916 Bushnell St., Beloit

Nov. 12
• 5 p.m., U.S. Marine Corps 236th birthday ball at the Marine Corps League, 3807 S. Riverside Drive, Beloit. Cost is $25. Call (608) 362-5249 for more information.

Stateline area

Veterans Day dinner, 6 p.m. Nov. 9 at Marine Corps League, 3807 S. Riverside Drive in Beloit.

Veterans Day dinner, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at VFW Post 2955, 11385 Second St. in Roscoe. Dinner is free for veterans, and $7 for the general public. For more information, call (815) 623-7663.

Veterans Day ceremony 8 a.m. Nov. 10. Whitman Post Elementary School, 1060 Union St. in Rockton. Event includes honoring local veterans, presentation from the Rockton color guard and a performance from the school’s choir. A breakfast is held for the veterans after the program.

Tribute to the veterans event, ceremony will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at Grinnell Hall, located at 631 Bluff St. in Beloit. Program will include posting of the colors, guest speakers and music performed by the Goldenaires. A luncheon for veterans and their spouses will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Grinnell Hall. Attendees are encouraged to call ahead of time at (608) 364-2875.

Dedication of veterans signs at local cemeteries from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at Oakwood Cemetery, located at 1221 Clary St. in Beloit.

Free Veterans Day appreciation dinner, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 11 at Rock County Christian School, located at 916 Bushnell St. in Beloit.

Veterans Day ceremony 10:30 a.m. Nov. 11 at Parkview High School, 106 W. Church St. in Orfordville. Program features American Legion Post Auxiliary Unit and SAL Squadron 209.
 
Veterans Day luncheon noon, Nov. 11 at Clinton Senior Center located at 508 Front St. in Clinton. Luncheon is for residents who are 60 years or older.

The Southwestern Wisconsin Detachment of Marine Corps League will host a dinner and ball starting 5 p.m. Nov. 12 to celebrate the 236th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps. The event will be held in the upper level of the Marine Corps League located at 3807 S. Riverside Drive in Beloit.
