ELKHORN — Concealed weapons won't be allowed in Walworth County owned buildings if an ordinance passes the county board Oct. 11 as expected. The Walworth County Board of Supervisors’ Executive Committee on Sept. 19 unanimously approved a draft ordinance prohibiting firearms in county facilities.

With the state’s new carrying concealed weapon law scheduled to take effect Nov. 1, the committee — Dave Weber, Dan Kilkenny, Rich Brandl, Randy Hawkins and Nancy Russell — moved the measure ahead with one small revision concerning the shooting range.

The ordinance, Chapter 16-5, currently states: “No person, except a law enforcement officer, may carry, possess or control a firearm within, or directed at, the confines of any county-owned structure, including but not limited to, the Government Center, Health and Human Services, Judicial Center, Lakeland Health Care Center, Lakeland School, Public Works Department and Sheriff’s Office.”

The full board is scheduled to take up the ordinance, which requires a majority vote to pass, at its next regular meeting, which will be Oct. 11. However, Weber said it could be discussed at the special board meeting Thursday.

“We have the support of the sheriff’s office and the public works director,” Weber said. “Personally, I’m very concerned with anything that promotes arming more people with more guns in our society, because the more you have, the more potential for problems.

“You certainly can’t legislate against emotional outbursts of somebody doing something. Instances like that always end in tragedy.”

No problem & on the same note I don't like towns that try to take away my rights because they carry a political agenda around with them. Looks like Lake Geneva & Delavan will be getting all of my money.

They don't get it. They haven't looked at the facts of what happens when people in society are allowed to carry. Crime rates go down for one instance. Welcome to the anti-gun blue state of WI. IF it were not for Walker we wouldn't have made as much progress towards a more pro-gun community.

Wow, do these people have any idea how the real world operates?

In Texas, not only are you allowed to conceal carry in the State Capital building - they put in an EXPRESS LANE to get you around the metal detectors if you are carrying a concealed handgun with a valid permit!
