Sharon's Victorian Christmas is back on, and in East Troy, Santa will arrive by fire truck this year.
After announcing earlier this month that Sharon's annual holiday festival had been cancelled for this year, the Sharon Village Board, along with the Sharon Main Street Association, came up with a plan to save the event.
Sharon's Victorian Christmas begins at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 2 with the Sharon Grade School Carolers performing at Veteran's Park. The tree lighting ceremony will take place at 6:15 p.m. The Big Foot High School Jazz Band will perform at 6:30 p.m.
More than a dozen vendors and displays are expected to be on hand.
In East Troy, Santa and his entourage will enter the village square by fire truck to light the Bob Barutha Memorial Christmas Tree on East Troy’s historic village square.
For the past few years in East Troy, Santa has arrived by train, but that portion of the village's celebration has been cancelled according to Chamber Director Katie Matteson.
“However, those who gather on the village square this year will not be disappointed,” Matteson said. “Santa and his entourage will arrive as usual by fire truck at 6:30 p.m. to light the tree, which will have been decorated with handmade ornaments by the local school children the day before.”
In anticipation of Santa’s arrival, festivities will begin on the East Troy village square at 6 p.m. with a Christmas carol sing-along led by the East Troy Community Band. Concessions will be available on the square from local Scout troops. The East Troy Lioness Club also will offer walking tacos and hot beverages in the warmth of the Lions Lodge.
Photos of children with Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available are part of the Holiday Marketplace that will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., featuring more than 20 vendors offering a variety of holiday gift items.
