Pearl Jam donation to support weekend lunch program at Delavan school |

DELAVAN — More than two months after a two-day stop in Walworth County during their 20th anniversary tour, the members of Pearl Jam are reaching out to schoolchildren here.
The band has donated $50,000 to Blessings In A Backpack. The program will help to feed 216 children over a three-year period at Wileman Elementary School in Delavan, according to a news release.
Starting Jan. 1, Blessings In A Backpack and grocery partner Piggly Wiggly will ensure that the children receive a backpack each Friday of the school year. The backpacks will be filled with essential food for the weekend. |

Dasher the reindeer, a popular attraction at Janesville tree farm, found dead |

JANESVILLE -- Dasher, the beloved reindeer that delighted families for years at Tannenbaum Acres Christmas Tree farm west of Janesville, was found dead Wednesday, possibly of a heart attack.
Co-owner Candace Utzig said Thursday that because Dasher is in the deer family, the Department of Natural Resources requires an autopsy to determine the cause of death, but she suspects it may have been a heart attack.
She said he was fine Tuesday night, but Wednesday morning, Dasher didn't run up to the gate as he usually did.
Utzig said she's working with some friends who also are reindeer owners to have some back at the tree farm Saturday and Sunday.
Despite Dasher's death, Tannenbaum acres opened Thanksgiving Day morning, as it has for years.

EAST TROY — At Family Trees in East Troy, customers can ride into the fields on a tractor-pulled hay wagon.
Weather permitting, sledding is available at Valley View Tree Farm, just northwest of Burlington in Honey Creek. Extra sleds are available for those who don’t bring their own.
“It’s something we added to draw more people, especially smaller kids,” said owner Brian Stankus, who likened the attraction to pumpkin farmers offering corn mazes and hayrides in the fall. |

Sharon's Victorian Christmas is back on, and in East Troy, Santa will arrive by fire truck this year.
After announcing earlier this month that Sharon's annual holiday festival had been cancelled for this year, the Sharon Village Board, along with the Sharon Main Street Association, came up with a plan to save the event. |

Searchers find body of missing Lake Geneva man |

LAKE GENEVA -- Authorities in Maryland said today they have found the body of a Lake Geneva man who was last seen more than a week ago.
James Wilson, 75, apparently died from exposure after his minivan became stuck in the woods in western Maryland's Green Ridge State Forest.
Wilson left his home on Nov. 11 for Delaware, but failed to arrive at his destination the next day, police said. The Lake Geneva Police Department on Thursday put out a missing persons bulletin.
The Associated Press reported that Wilson's body was found in a steep ravine about three-quarters of a mile from his disabled vehicle.
