Alfredo E. Villarreal, identified as the inmate shot and killed Jan. 21, 2013 by a Walworth County sheriff's deputy during an altercation at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn.

GENEVA TOWNSHIP -- A Walworth County Sheriff's deputy fatally shot an inmate who was trying to escape Monday at the Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in the Town of Geneva, according to a news release from the Walworth County Sheriff's Office.

Alfredo Emilio Villarreal, 18, of Janesville was shot during an attack on a deputy, according to the release.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., authorities say Villarreal punched and kicked the deputy in the face multiple times while trying to escape custody. The deputy called for assistance and several law enforcement agencies responded at the medical center.

The deputy also used a Taser, but it failed to stop Villarreal.

Villarreal then used a chair to attempt to break the window in his room. When that failed, he attempted to strike the deputy over the head with a chair. The deputy shot Villarreal.

Lifesaving measures were attempted on Villarreal by law enforcement and medical staff, but he died at the scene.

Villarreal was being held in the Walworth County Jail on a probation and parole hold from the Department of Corrections and was undergoing tests and observation for a personal medical issue at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center.

Adam Beeson, public relations manager for Aurora Healthcare, said the deputy was treated at Aurora Lakeland and released.

"It's been a difficult situation for the hospital and stressful for the staff," Beeson said.

The incident remains ongoing. As standard procedure, the Walworth County Sheriff's Office and the Town of Geneva Police Department requested the Waukesha County Sheriff's Office investigate the incident.

I knew this teenager and have never had one ounce of disrespect. the officers excuse was that Emilio was coming at him with a chair. all the officer had to do was shoot him in the arm or upper shoulder, heck even in the leg and the chair would have been dropped. it makes me sick that Walworth County is standing behind the Deputy. Go's to show how crooked our Justice system is. I know that Emilio had gotten into some trouble and that was the reason for him being incarcerated to begin with, but he is just a kid, have you never made a mistake as a kid? I feel (along with several people I have spoke with) that this deputy should face murder charges, hell if it was anyone but the deputy, they sure would. After all we are living in the wonderful dairy state where there is a no defense law. Emilio you will be missed, and just know you were loved dearly by many. My heart goes out to his sister, nieces, grandparents and brother in law, along with all those who knew Emilio for the respectful kid he was.Like I said, I knew Emilio, he was dating my daughter. Never one ounce of disrespect or any sign of violence. So it was not a day to day thing for him to be that way. Good job Walworth county, I wonder what you do for an encore? Do us a favor and put the officer responsible in prison where he belongs and for those who support him, get a job where people who do not rely on fair justice, cause crooked is not what our taxes are meant to go for. Can I get an Amen. You may get out of it through the courts, but I am sure you wont on judgement day. God Bless you Emilio and may you rest in piece. I am sorry your life was taken way too soon.

There is no reason to soot the child at point blank range four times. The officer should have been taught at the Academy to shoot at the perp in the legs or arms. Hard to lift a chair with a bullet in the arm. And four shots, did the officer have no concern for the other patient's in the wing? The bullets could have gone through the walls into other patients rooms killing them also. LET'S THINK BEFORE WE GO OFF THE DEEP END NEXT TIME COPPER.

Killing an unarmed teenager is horrible the police officer who did this should be locked up. Doesn't matter that he was being "attacked" it comes with the job. He could have called back up. It's not like Lakeland hospital is soooo far away from the sherrifs department that the kid would have gone too far. Authority abuse at its finest
