Holiday giving opportunities in Rock County PDF Print E-mail

Are you able to help out a neighbor in need this holiday season? There are lots of opportunities. Below is a list of groups collecting toys, clothes and food to distribute before Christmas. We'll publish the list each Sunday in the Stateline News and Janesville Messenger:


Operation Support Our Troops America drop-off,  from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday Nov. 25. America Chemtool Incorporated and J.A. Frate are joining forces to collect supplies for the troops overseas. J.A. Frate will have a semi-trailer on site. A list of needed items is available online at www.osotamerica.org/
get-involved/itemsneeded. Each member of the military receives a package weighing approximately 25 pounds and costs about $25 to ship. The Chemtool Incorporated Technology Center located at 801 W. Rockton Road in Rockton.

Fourth annual Milton Public Library Coat Drive, through Nov. 30 at Milton Public Library, 430 E. High St., Milton. Drop off clean, gently used children or adult coats at the library to benefit those in need in Milton.

Milton Food Pantry Toy Drive, unwrapped toys for the Milton Food Pantry Toy Drive can be dropped off through Monday, Dec. 10 at the Bank of Milton, First Community Bank or Milton Public Library. Toys also can be brought to St. Mary’s Church between noon and 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14. A holiday meal and toys will be provided on Saturday, Dec. 15 at St. Mary’s Church. Salvation Army accepting items for Christmas dinner, The Salvation Army is in need of items for its Christmas dinner, as well as nonperishable food items and toys. The Salvation Army also will conduct its Red Kettle campaign at various locations during the holiday season.

Beloit Public Library conducts Mitten Tree program, The Beloit Public Library, 605 Eclipse Boulevard is collecting mittens, hats, scarves or gloves for its mitten tree program. Items for preschool and elementary school students are especially needed. Collected items will be donated to local nonprofit organizations and schools.

South Beloit Public Library collecting food items: The South Beloit Public Library is collecting canned food items for the rest of the year. For every canned food item that is brought in, $1 will be taken off of patrons’ library fines. Patrons also may choose to bring in an item to pay someone else’s fine. Canned items that are collected will be distributed to a local food pantry in January. Also for the rest of the year, a children’s calendar will be given to any patron that checks out items from the library.

Anytime Fitness near Prairie Avenue in Beloit, is conducting a clothing and food drive for the Rockford Rescue Mission until Nov. 30. Non-perishable food items are needed, as well as baby items and gently used and new clothing.

Kiwanis Club conducts wreath sale, The Kiwanis Club of Beloit will conduct its annual Christmas wreath sale fundraisers. Wreaths will be sold from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday Nov. 30 at the Rock Bar and Grill, 101 Maple Ave. in Beloit; from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday Dec. 1 and Dec. 8 at Sophia’s Restaurant, 3201 Riverside Drive in Beloit; from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 1 and Dec. 8 at Beloit Culver’s, 2676 Cranston Road; from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 1 and Dec. 8 at the Rock Bar and Grill, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday Dec. 2 and Dec. 9 at the Rock Bar and Grill. Wreaths also will be sold from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday Dec. 7 at the First National Bank Plaza during the Holidazzle event. The proceeds will be used to help support programs for children and senior citizens. For more information, call (608) 365-5897.

Marines conduct Toys for Tots program, Items are being collected for the Marine Toys for Tots program at the Marine Corps League, 3807 Riverside Drive in Beloit. The deadline to donate items is Saturday Dec. 1.

Children’s Christmas benefit in Orfordville, The 14th Annual Children’s Christmas Benefit will be held Saturday Dec. 1 at the Orfordville American Legion. The festivities begin with a pork chop dinner. Santa will meet with children. The Stateline Playboys will perform from 8 p.m. to midnight, and raffle drawings will be held throughout the evening. Toys and gifts will be collected, and will be distributed to local families in need. There is no cost to attend, but donations will be accepted. Cash contributions will be used to purchase hats, mittens, boots, clothing, toys and supplies for area children. The money also will be used to purchase a Christmas meal for the children’s families.

Goldie B. Floberg Center conducts Mother Christmas program, The Goldie B. Floberg Center in Rockton is accepting unwrapped gifts for its Mother Christmas program through Monday Dec. 10. Gifts should be delivered to the center, 58 W. Rockton Road, or to Fire & Safety Equipment, 2420 Harrison Road in Rockford. The center is conducting the program to provide Christmas gifts to its clients. For more information, call (815) 721-1780.

Salvation Army Angel Tree, for local children in need. Donation dates will be  through Dec. 10. Collection site will be at 2315 Prairie Ave. in Beloit. Items needed include unwrapped toys.

Chiropractic clinic hosts charity drive: Chiropractic Family Wellness, 11673 Main St. in Roscoe, is hosting a charity drive for Mother House Crisis Nursery, which takes in abused or homeless children for temporary care. Items needed include diapers, wipes, paper products, snacks, food and formula.

The Stateline News food and toy drive now is collecting donations of unwrapped toys and non-perishable food items. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 14.  In past years, donations have gone to local groups such as the Salvation Army and Caritas. Donations can be dropped off weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Statelilne News office located at 1555 Willowbrook Road, Beloit. For more information call (815) 389-2722.

The Janesville Messenger food and toy drive now is collecting donations of unwrapped toys and non-perishable food items. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 14. In past years, donations have gone to local groups such as the Salvation Army and ECHO. Donations can be dropped off weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Janesville Messenger office located at 333 S. Wuthering Hills Drive, Janesville. For more information call (608) 752-0777.


Barbershop conducts toy drive, Dad’s and Lad’s Barbershop, 609 Blackhawk Boulevard in South Beloit, is conducting a toy drive for local families in need. Donations need to be dropped off by Dec. 15.

Turner School District collecting items for people in need, FJ Turner High School’s National Honor Society will be collecting canned food and nonperishable food items for local shelters and charities through Tuesday Dec. 18. Students are encouraged to bring items to their school. The class that collects the most items will win a pizza party.

Caritas in need of items, Caritas, 2840 Prairie Ave. in Beloit, is in need of socks, blankets, hats, gloves, soap, shampoo, baby wipes and nonperishable food items. Items can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Items being collected for Clinton Community Outreach Inc., Clinton Community Outreach INC is in need of nonperishable food items, diapers, baby wipes, soap, shampoo, gloves and hats. Items can be dropped off at American Family Debbie Duchamp, 237 Allen St. in Clinton.

Sparrow’s Nest in need of items, Items are being collected for Sparrow’s Nest, 1816 Harrison Ave. in Beloit. Some of the items in need include men’s and women’s slippers, gloves, hats, coats, socks, jeans, shirts, bus passes and cash donations.
