JANESVILLE -- Dasher, the beloved reindeer that delighted families for years at Tannenbaum Acres Christmas Tree farm west of Janesville, was found dead Wednesday, possibly of a heart attack. Co-owner Candace Utzig said Thursday that because Dasher is in the deer family, the Department of Natural Resources requires an autopsy to determine the cause of death, but she suspects it may have been a heart attack. She said he was fine Tuesday night, but Wednesday morning, Dasher didn't run up to the gate as he usually did. Utzig said she's working with some friends who also are reindeer owners to have some back at the tree farm Saturday and Sunday. Despite Dasher's death, Tannenbaum acres opened Thanksgiving Day morning, as it has for years. More on Dasher and other tree growers HERE.
