Classic boats return to Geneva Lake

WEEKENDER -- The Blackhawk Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society will host a two-day show Sept. 28-29, 2013, at the Abbey Resort and Abbey Marina in Fontana on Geneva Lake. The Blackhawk Chapter Geneva Lakes Boat Show is an annual event. The show is free to attend.

As always, the show will feature antique, classic and vintage boats from all over the country. Boats ranging in style and age from 1900 to modern reproductions will include Chris Craft, Century, Streblow, Hacker and Gar Wood. They will be on display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.Highlights of the show include the annual starting of the engines and boat parade, which will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday.

The boat parade attracts a big crowd every year so get there early and vote for your favorite.  The boats will travel through the marina and out of the harbor. The People’s Choice award will be presented at 2 p.m. Sunday.

In addition, there will be an artist’s fair including many local and regional artists, who will have their works on display and for sale. There will  be live demonstrations with local artists in their chosen medium.

The Blackhawk Chapter has been hosting antique and classic boat shows in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin for 25 years. The chapter promotes boating education and hosts safety and restoration workshops. Over the past 10 years, the chapter has donated in excess of $50,000 to local charities, education and conservation efforts.
